JOB SUMMARY:

This organization is responsible for engineering, implementing, and supporting Red Hat Linux server hardware platforms and operating systems. This is a 7x24x365 operations and support organization and some after-hours work is required. This position is responsible for organizing the day to day work for this organization, including, but not limited to monitoring work queues and assigning incidents and work requests; approval of change requests; project resource assignments; managing OS patching process, schedule, communication and updating website; primary business hours contact for the team; life cycle management and replacement for Oracle and Dell Servers, including support renewals; managing and providing evidence for internal and external audits; Unix/Linux user and group creation; day to day hands on technical support as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or MIS is desired or equivalent work experience

  • Strong experience and knowledge of Red Hat Linux server hardware platforms and other components (CPU, clusters, storage area networks, disk and tape arrays.)

  • Strong experience and knowledge of Red Hat Linux server operating systems and associated software such as Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Ansible & Tower.

  • Strong experience and knowledge of Dell hardware and virtual Red Hat Linux Servers running on VMWare.

  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, VAS, NFS, DNS, DHCP
  • Knowledge of Scripting for automation, Puppet and YUM are a plus
  • Demonstrated hands on knowledge and heavy experience creating and using Access databases and Excel spreadsheets, including proficiency with vLookup

  • Knowledge of security policies and how cyber security impacts industry

  • Ability to provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Linux Operating Systems on virtual and physical platforms

  • General knowledge of information technologies (those currently used within the system and new technologies)

  • Experience and knowledge utilizing IT incident and change management tools such as Remedy.

  • Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple priorities/details, meet schedules, and deliver on customer commitments. Must be highly organized to succeed in this position

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure engineering, installation and maintenance of Unix/Linux server hardware, operating systems, and system software follow company standards, meet project timelines, follow documented processes and change procedures, and meet customer requirements.

  • Ensure all Unix/Linux incidents and work requests are assigned, worked and resolved within established SLAs.

  • Ensure all Unix/Linux change requests meet documented criteria.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to team members, customers, and other areas both within and outside of IT.

  • Provide full life cycle management for Servers and system software.

  • Ensure Unix/Linux inventory is accurate and up to date, including proper accounting information for billing.

  • Process Unix/Linux User Group Requests
  • Create local home directories on Linux Servers for specific application users

  • Work space issue incidents, by checking to see if it's cleared and if not diagnosing to resolve or assign to team member.

  • Work IS Work Request Incidents for server retirements by creating the APART request, assigning or completing the retirement, closing the Remedy Incident.

  • Build virtual Red Hat Linux Servers utilizing team build document and Red Hat Satellite to perform the build.

  • Patch Linux Servers utilizing Red Hat Ansible Tower.
  • Work with Internal and External Auditors to complete audit evidence gathering and answer questions or coordinate appropriate team members to answer questions.

  • Diagnose and resolve other problems as able to meet service level expectations.

  • Participate in departmental initiatives.
  • Communicate progress, problems and best practices to management, team leads and teammates.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or MIS strongly preferred; four (4) years of relevant technical experience is an acceptable substitute.

  • A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of service (depending on job level), providing technical and organizational support for in-scope technologies. When relevant technical experience is substituted for a degree, the minimum experience requirement increases by four (4) years.

  • Prior experience as a designated liaison or team leader of a technical operational team is preferred.

  • less than 10% in travel will be required for this role
